I am a big fan of the George Foreman line of kitchen appliances. I have one of the original grills from when they first came out. I have the George Jr. Rotisserrie. And I also have the contact roaster…glad I got it when I did, because they do not make these anymore. It’s such a shame, because it is a good product.
This is what it looks like:

It’s a lot like the grills, except that it’s deep…it holds up to a five pound chicken. I especially like it for roasting a boneless leg of lamb. Lamb, as you know, is very fatty. The last time I roasted lamb in the oven, the fat drippings burned, set off the smoke detectors, and we could not get them to shut off. It was horrible…I HATE the smoke alarms in this house!
But with the contact roaster, I can cook a lamb roast again. See, it has a hole in the bottom of the inside, which makes the fat drip off into the tray on the bottom of the appliance. Therefore, the fat does not get hot enough to burn, you can just pull out the tray easily and pour off the fat.
It also comes with a pan insert, in which you can make breakfast casseroles and the like.
If you ever see one of these for sale someplace…pick it up. Maybe you can find one at a yard sale or thrift shop, or perhaps on eBay. If you buy it used and the original owner lost the users manual, fear not. I still have mine, and I can provide you with a .pdf copy of it upon request.
Anyhoo, I was thrilled when I was offered the opportunity to receive a brand new model of the George Foreman grill to try and review. Yes, I get to keep it afterwards. Anyhoo, be on the lookout for the review and a cooking video, once I do receive the product!
